My interest in Art began at an early age living with my parents in Transylvania, Romania. We lived in Oradea, a highly cultural city, where I was exposed to art of all varieties and was deeply affected by what I saw. My mother worked as a translator for the theater and I watched rehearsals, plays, concerts, actors and all the scenery and excitement that swirls around such an art community. These images have remained with me, and much of my work ties back to those earliest memories and influences.

My professional career began in Israel where I attended an art high school in Tel Aviv and later graduated from Art Teachers College. I also attended the advanced program at the Avne Institute of Fine Arts in Tel Aviv. I taught Fine Art in Israeli Public Schools and began to exhibit my personal artwork at a leading Tel Aviv Art Gallery. Later I moved to Milan, Italy where I continued my art education and career at the Brera Academy (Academia Brera de Belle Arte).

When I moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1974 with my husband, Andrei, and our daughter, Idit, we did not expect to stay for more than three years. But as is true for many immigrants, a short-term business project became a lifelong endeavor. We settled in Massachusetts, where I have built a career as an art teacher and adviser to the local artists’ community for nearly 50 years.

In 2008, I fulfilled my dream of establishing the Judith Klein Art Gallery to showcase my own work and the work of other artists of various mediums. My work, which includes painting (oil, acrylic, mixed media, and gouache), printmaking (woodcuts, linocuts, and monoprints), drawings, and Judaica, expresses my appreciation for color, light, and the natural world. Many of my pieces integrate similar elements — sun and water, land and sky — and the beauty of the human spirit.

Creating, teaching, and viewing art gives me great joy. I hope that my gallery continues to be a source of pleasure and inspiration for all who come to visit!
